The parent company has supplied hydraulic parts, such as final drive motors and main pumps, to construction machinery brands including Hyundai, Doosan and Volvo in the domestic market for over four decades, and also supplies international brands worldwide. Hydraulic America is one of North America's major suppliers of final drive motors and main pumps for mini, midi and large excavators, providing aftermarket assembly units for major brands such as CAT, Komatsu, Kubota, Hitachi, John Deere, Bobcat, Takeuchi, Case, Kobelco, Doosan, Yanmar, Volvo and Hyundai. The company was an industry pioneer and the first to manufacture Kawasaki pumps and Nabtesco final drive motors in South Korea. It was also the first in its sector to switch from a build-to-order strategy to a ready-to-ship one, referred to as the Upfront Process. Over the years the company added product lines from worldwide final drive motor and main pump manufacturers, including Nachi and Kayaba final drive motors alongside Eaton final drives. As a result, Hydraulic America can offer aftermarket final drive motors for more than 90% of the mini excavator models of all brands currently operating in the US and Canada. Recent additions include custom-built final drives for Hitachi, John Deere and CAT models of 11-24 ton class excavators, and main pump designs from Rexroth, Nachi and Kayaba for mini excavators plus the Hitachi HPV series for large excavators, together with Kawasaki K3V and K5V pumps. ## Customers Hydraulic America serves top OEM dealers throughout North America, large fleet owners, municipalities, and numerous independent dealers, repair shops and individuals. The primary pump in an excavator's hydraulic system that powers functions such as lifting, digging, crawling and swinging. Common issues with main hydraulic pumps? Low pressure, excessive noise and overheating, often caused by a clogged filter or worn components, sometimes requiring repair or replacement. Types of hydraulic pumps used in excavators? Two main types: variable displacement (adjusts the amount of fluid produced) and fixed displacement (produces a fixed amount). How does a hydraulic pump work in an excavator? It uses a rotary system to draw hydraulic fluid from the reservoir and pressurise it, sending hydraulic power through hoses to the machine's functions. ## Excavator final drive motors What is a final drive motor? A hydraulic motor that powers the machine's tracks or wheels, allowing it to move and manoeuvre on the job site. How does it work? It receives pressurised hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic system, which rotates an internal gear system via a hydraulic piston, generating torque to drive the tracks or wheels. Common signs of a faulty final drive motor? Excessive noise, slow or weak movement, leaks around the motor or hoses, and overheating. How to maintain it? Regular fluid changes, filter replacements and visual inspections for wear or damage. Can a faulty final drive motor damage other parts? Yes, it can damage the tracks or wheels, so issues should be addressed promptly. Common causes of failure? Contamination of hydraulic fluid, improper maintenance, and excessive wear from heavy use or harsh operating conditions. --- # Parts Specialists URL: https://shophydraulicamerica.com/parts-specialist-team/ Title: Parts Specialist Team - Hydraulic America Hydraulic America has a team of dedicated Parts Specialists who match the right part to each customer. With a vast inventory and an extensive network of suppliers - including major manufacturers like Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu and Volvo - they match a search to the right part at the right price based on the machine's make, model and serial number. The team works with hundreds of vendors dealing in new aftermarket, rebuilt and used parts, and can help locate parts even when they are not listed on the site, by general phone line or by contacting a specialist directly. --- # Final Drive Motor Maintenance URL: https://shophydraulicamerica.com/final-drive-motor-maintenance/ Title: Final Drive Motor Maintenance - Hydraulic America Always follow the manufacturer's specifications when available; these recommendations are generic. Check the oil periodically and top up as required. Maintenance intervals: change the oil every 250 to 500 hours, or at least once per year depending on use. The frequency of oil changes is generally proportionate to the longevity of a final drive gearbox. Procedure: drain the gearbox oil while hot for easier draining; verify the oil contains no metallic particles; refill with fresh oil (typically about half capacity - see the oil table on the page); do not combine different oils. Examine for leaks, paying special attention to the primary hub mechanical (floating) seal between the sprocket and track frame - if oil leaks here it may indicate a larger problem, so replace the seal and stop the machine. Check track tension, since an over-tight track chain strains the hub bearings and can cause early gearbox failure. Recommended gearbox oils include Shell Omala EP220, Esso/Exxon Spartan EP220, BP Energol GR-HP220, Mobil Mobilgear 630, Elf and Agip Blasia 220 grades. --- # Excavator Final Drive Removal and Replacement URL: https://shophydraulicamerica.com/excavator-final-drive-removal-replacement/ Title: Excavator Final Drive Removal and Replacement - Hydraulic America Follow the original machine manufacturer's methods when known. To remove the final drive / track motor: unbolt the sprockets and remove the track (loosening the sprocket nuts first makes removal simpler); remove the cover plate from the track motor within the undercarriage frame; release the final drive and support its weight, as final drives can be heavy; mark the hydraulic hoses for later identification; remove and cap the hoses, then plug the track motor's ports to avoid contaminating the hydraulic system; remove the bolts within the track frame that secure the final drive; drive out the final gear. Do not strike the travel motor to free a seized final drive, as this causes damage - remove it from the outside of the track frame instead. Installing a new final drive reverses the removal, but great care must be taken when connecting the pipes, as improper connection can cause sudden travel-motor failure. Refer to the Bolt Torque Settings page when tightening nuts. Case leakage warning: all piston hydraulic motors leak oil from the rotating group into the motor casing, which lubricates the internal parts. A leak-off (drain) line returns this oil to the tank under low pressure. If the leak-off line is disconnected, obstructed or pressurised, pressure builds in the casing and causes catastrophic damage to the travel motor and often the gearbox, so it must be properly connected, unobstructed and free of significant back pressure. --- # Making Correct Hydraulic Drive Motor Connections URL: https://shophydraulicamerica.com/making-correct-hydraulic-drive-motor-connections/ Title: Making Correct Hydraulic Drive Motor Connections - Hydraulic America Each travel drive unit has an identifying plate with the model, serial and component numbers needed to identify the drive; the matching drive on the opposite side may have a readable plate if one is damaged. Improperly connecting the hydraulic drive motor can ruin the final drive. A hydraulic track drive may have two to five connections: two lines that power the motor (flow and return, the A and B ports); a casing leak-off / drain that must connect to the correct C port; a two-speed line that adjusts travel speed via the D port; and sometimes a brake line, usually attached to the transmission rather than the motor. A & B ports (flow and return): the primary, usually largest, inlet/outlet ports; where there are four or more ports these sit in the centre of the manifold. C1 & C2 ports (case drain): most modern final drives have two case drain ports, one on each side of the A/B ports; plugging either C1 or C2 changes the drain location. Always connect the case drain line to the highest port and leave the lowest port unplugged. Some drives have a single case drain port between A and B. On smaller drives the dual-speed and case-drain hoses/ports can be the same size, so identify the case drain correctly. Attaching a pressurised line to the case drain port can cause mechanical and hydraulic failure - be certain which line is which before connecting, and contact a specialist if unsure. The regulated leak from the rotating group must drain back to the tank relatively unimpeded and also lubricates the motor shaft bearings. --- # Bolt Torque Settings URL: https://shophydraulicamerica.com/bolt-torque-settings/ Title: Bolt Torque Settings - Hydraulic America This is a reminder on proper bolt torque settings when reassembling a final drive or pump unit (not a disassembly guide). Use a metric torque wrench to avoid costly errors. The page provides a full metric torque chart giving axial load (kN) and torque setting (Nm) by bolt diameter x pitch (from M3 x 0.5 up to M30+) across bolt grades 4.8, 5.8, 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9. Example values: M8 x 1 ranges from about 14.5 Nm (grade 4.8) to 47 Nm (grade 12.9); M12 x 1.75 from about 46 Nm to 148 Nm; M16 x 2 from about 113 Nm to 369 Nm; M20 x 2.5 from about 222 Nm to 719 Nm.
